A Tribute to Malcolm Harding

The Coventry & District Chess League would like to pay tribute to Malcolm Harding, who passed away on Monday 7th October, 2024.

Malcolm, served as League Secretary for our League for seven years - putting in many hours to ensure the League ran smoothly. From meetings, fixtures, to the Rapidplay, Malcolm was instrumental to the League's functioning and was an excellent stabilising influence across this time, in particular, he oversaw the transition moving from the old to new results system. Malcolm was also very active in grassroots chess before his move to the Midlands, having served as President of the Hertfordshire Chess Association.

Those who knew Malcolm well, will know that he was Head of Finance for the CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, before his retirement, which he loved very much.

The League will miss Malcolm a great deal for his humour, hard work, and real commitment to grassroots chess, from his local club, Rugby, to the wider League.
