​A Joint Coventry and Leamington Online Chess League in the new year, 2021!

PRESS RELEASE

Coventry, Leamington, and surrounding area / 02 December 2020

Building on a successful Autumn 2020 season of online chess (despite the pandemic), the Coventry and District Chess League will be forming a joint 2021 Spring League with the Leamington and District Chess League.

Local chess across the Coventry and Leamington area, remains vibrant as ever. The new joint league plans to bring together all the existing clubs in both Leagues. This comes in the backdrop of Warwickshire and surrounding areas entering Tier 3 restrictions, the Coventry's City of Culture 2021 celebrations, and of course, the renewed interest in chess from the Netflix's Queen Gambit TV show - watched by over 70 million people since its release!

The Coventry and Leamington Online Chess League looks forward to an exciting year, in the backdrop of Coventry's City of Culture 2021 celebrations!

The joint Online League is due to begin in the new year, on the week beginning 25th January 2021, and will be run over 3 Divisions - Open (Tuesday 7.30pm), U560 (Thursday 7.30pm), and U480 (Tuesday 7.30pm). It currently has eighteen teams stretching across the borders of Warwickshire. The League is open to all existing Coventry and Leamington League clubs, and any new clubs based in historic Warwickshire. The deadline for entries, is 23.59 Wednesday 13th January.

If you are a beginner, casual player, or an experienced player, many local CDCL and LDCL clubs will be delighted to welcome you, including, Coventry, Leamington, Nuneaton, Rugby, Kenilworth, Sutton Coldfield, Shirley and Wythall, Stratford, Solihull, Olton, Daventry, Banbury, and Rugby Juniors. University students in Birmingham, Coventry, and Warwick, may also play for their university teams.

We highly encourage members of the public to join your local chess club. Equally, we would welcome new teams of four, from the Warwickshire area.

CDCL Autumn Online League 2020 - Results Update

For the 2020-21 Season, the Coventry & District Chess League is running an Autumn Online League, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. We are the foremost online League in the Midlands, with nineteen teams hailing from across the Coventry-Warwickshire area. CDCL Online League: October-December 2020 Fixtures

FIXTURES FOR DIVISION 1 & 2

The first date (below) is for Division 1 (Tuesday) and the second date for Division 2 (Thursday).

If you are playing on a date other than a Tuesday or Thursday please keep me informed.

I will always refer to the fixture date as a Tuesday or Thursday even if you play on another day.

Teams from the same or a similar club play each other in the first fixture.

The fixtures are from the internationally recognised Berger Tables.  As agreed I made the draw.

REPORTING RESULTS

Both clubs send me the complete result on the evening of the match.

You are not expected to send me the real names of your opponents.

Treat the fixture as one match.  Eg each players score will be 2-0, 1.5-0.5, 1-1 etc

Please send by e-mail without formatting.  Also please no screen shots or copy and paste from chess.com

This will take you a little extra time but will be a great time saver for me.

The real names of players should be reported when they play their first games.

Prompt reporting will mean that the full results will be out very soon.

CDCL Online League - 2020/21 Autumn Season

For the Autumn of the 2020-21 Season, the Coventry & District Chess League is running an Online League, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. This is, following a backdrop of a very successful trial league in the Summer, where a summary can be found here, [link].

The Online League will consist of two divisions, an Open Division, and a U140 Division - open to regular and new chess teams. The time control will be 15 minutes plus 10 second increment.

The deadline for entries to Colin Green (League Chairman, and Online Chess organiser) is Monday 5th October, who may also be emailed for additional details [colin284green@googlemail.com].

CDCL Summer 2020 Online Chess League [Trial]

Here are the final results of the August 2020 Trial Online Chess League.

Congratulations to the University of Warwick who won all of their games.

A total of 54 different players represented the 6 competing clubs. I think it's been a great success, without which the next stage might not have been possible.

On this note I have almost completed my proposals for the October League, which should be with you very soon.
